What is Spotify Open Access?

Spotify Open Access (SOA) connects access to podcast content on Spotify with an existing membership system. Setup includes the partner, its entitlements and listener account linking. See the Spotify documentation.

Establish the setup first

Examine your contract and the current plan overview. The old Business Pro name alone does not show current access or an extra charge. Contact Podigee and your SOA partner about availability, partner setup and approval before you offer content through this route.

A saved partner ID alone does not activate a complete membership verification system. The Podigee procedure below uses a protected podcast.

Supply the protected feed securely

If the specified setup makes a separate technical listener necessary, create it only for that purpose. Its personal feed link gives access. Keep it as secure as an access key. Do not use a paying listener's personal link as a general integration link.

Give the link only to the specified partner through the specified protected route. Do not publish it in articles, public directories, screenshots or public support tickets. Establish how to revoke and replace access before setup. Revocation does not automatically remove files already downloaded.

Podcast settings

  1. Open Feeds in the podcast, if SOA is available in your account.
  2. Enter the Open Access Partner ID supplied by the correct partner and save it.

More fields can then appear. The images show examples; names can be different.

  1. Add the Entitlements specified for your membership system. Use the same identifiers. Do not invent names.
  2. Use Sandbox Mode as specified in the specified test plan.

Sandbox is not a replacement for access protection. Spotify says this mode limits discovery. A known direct link can still be available. See the SOA content rules.

Episode entitlements

Open Feeds in the episode. Select the necessary entitlements from the podcast list and save them.

Examine any empty entitlement selection for a protected episode. Spotify says that episodes without entitlements are public within SOA. The episode and listener account must have an entitlement in common for the intended access.

Examine access before release

With the partner, test an authorized account and an unauthorized account. Also test removal of an entitlement. Saved fields, an available feed or a successful login alone do not show correctly protected playback. Contact Podigee about errors before you leave Sandbox Mode.
