Locked Tag | Podcast Feed
The Locked tag tells other hosting platforms if they can import your RSS feed.
Setting in Podigee
Find the checkbox under More Options:
- Enabled:
<podcast:locked>yes</podcast:locked>. - Disabled:
<podcast:locked>no</podcast:locked>.
Platforms that use this tag should reject an import when the value is yes.
No technical access protection
The tag does not make a public feed private. It cannot prevent access to, or copies of, the feed and audio files. Each platform controls how it uses the tag.
The tag alone cannot prevent a takeover of a podcast listing. The specification does not tell all directories to reject a new feed URL after an HTTP 301 redirect.
Move your podcast
Before a move, read the new host's instructions. If an unlocked feed is necessary for its import, disable the setting before the import. After the move, do a check of the setting at the new host.
Contact address in the feed
The optional owner attribute can contain an email address for an ownership check. Podigee uses the podcast email address. If that field is empty, Podigee uses the account owner's email address. People can see this address in the published feed.
Example of a locked feed with a contact address:
<podcast:locked owner="email@example.com">yes</podcast:locked>
See Podcasting 2.0: Locked tag.
The address is also included in the Locked tag, whether that tag is enabled or disabled. Leaving the owner email field blank or switching off the Locked tag does not hide the address. Use an address intended for public podcast contact, and check the generated feed after a change. Changing the address does not remove previous copies from other platforms or caches.
