Publishing Video Podcasts to Apple Podcasts | Apple Video

This procedure is for video delivery through the Apple Podcasts connection in Podigee. Apple uses the HLS video stream and the information in your podcast feed. HLS is the streaming format for video delivery. A separate video RSS submission is a different method.

Before you start

• Video podcasts are available to all accounts on the current plan lineup. Legacy plans do not include video podcasts. Your plan's video allowances and upload limits still apply. Video access does not mean an unlimited allowance.
• You must have access to the correct show in your own Apple Podcasts Connect account.
• Video delivery must be available for your show at Apple. A current Podigee plan alone does not give this access.

Set up the connection

1. In your podcast, open Exports or Exports & Connections and the Apple connection. If an activation or beta notice is shown, read it before you enable the connection.
2. Make sure that the correct show is in your Apple Podcasts Connect account. If it is not, use the claim token procedure.
3. In the show settings at Apple, examine whether video delivery is available. If it is not, use the contact link in Apple's current video procedure.
4. Follow Apple's API key procedure and the steps in the Podigee connection dialog. Upload the key file that the dialog specifies. Do not change the file name. Keep a secure backup and do not share the key in public.
5. Enable video delivery when the connection lets you continue. Then examine the connection status.

Publish and examine the video

Upload the video file with the video upload function in the episode. Examine the processing status and any errors under Media file. Publish the episode or save the applicable update.

An active connection or a completed upload does not show that playback is available at Apple. Examine the delivery status, then open the correct episode in Apple Podcasts. You can keep some episodes as audio only.

Add video to an existing audio episode

Do not delete the existing audio file as a general step to add video. First, save a backup of your source files. Make sure that you know whether the upload function adds video or also replaces the audio track. If this is not clear, contact support before the change.

Unpublish an episode or remove its video

If you unpublish or delete a whole episode, it disappears from the podcast feed. Apple then removes the episode too. If you publish an unpublished episode again, it returns to the feed and Apple. Examine the result in Apple Podcasts after processing. There is no fixed waiting time.

Removing only the video file is a different action. The audio episode stays in Podigee. This is not the same as unpublishing or deleting the whole episode. Do not assume that local video removal alone removes the episode or its video at Apple. Then examine the episode and playback in Apple Podcasts.

Advertising

The available functions are different for each delivery method and Podigee connection. Apple's general support for dynamic video advertising does not mean that your Podigee connection has this function. Contact support about your advertising setup before you change the connection.
