Publishing Video Podcast to Spotify | Spotify Video
With Podigee you can publish your podcast on Spotify not only as audio, but also as a video podcast. You'll find the setup in your podcast under Exports, in the Video section, on the Spotify Video card.
💡 The Exports tab is only available once your podcast has been published and has at least one published episode.
What you need before you start
Before you enable Spotify Video, make sure the following is true:
- Your podcast is published.
- Your podcast has at least one published episode.
- Your Podigee plan includes the Video package.
- Every episode intended for video must have a video file uploaded in MP4 or MOV format, encoded with the H.264 (or H.265/HEVC) video codec and AAC audio.
- If you upload a custom thumbnail, it must be in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Thumbnails automatically generated from the video are adjusted to 16:9 by Podigee – so you don't need to worry about that.
What happens when you enable Spotify Video?
When you activate Spotify Video, Podigee will manage your Spotify show via the Spotify Video API going forward, rather than through your traditional RSS feed. This allows qualifying episodes to be sent to Spotify as video.
Good to know:
- Episodes with a video file can be sent to Spotify as video.
- Audio-only episodes stay audio-only.
- Podigee does not automatically turn an existing audio episode into a video.
💡 Old episodes without a video file are not automatically converted into video episodes. Your followers, analytics, and links on Spotify, however, stay in place.
Your podcast is already on Spotify as audio?
If your podcast is already on Spotify as audio, Podigee will not create a second show. Instead, your existing Spotify show is switched from RSS delivery to API-based delivery. Spotify handles this migration in the background.
⚠️ If your podcast was previously listed on Spotify via RSS, this RSS submission will be automatically removed upon activation. Spotify only allows one method (RSS or API) at a time.
How to set up Spotify Video
- Open your podcast in Podigee.
- Go to the Exports tab.
- In the Video section, click the Spotify Video card.
- Confirm the consent for management via the Spotify API.
- Choose which episodes should be synced:
- New episodes only – Only episodes published after activation are sent to Spotify.
- All episodes – Your entire back catalogue is synced to Spotify (audio-only episodes stay audio).
- Click Enable Spotify Video.
💡 Depending on your starting point, setup can look a bit different. If your podcast is new to Spotify, a new connection is created. If your podcast already exists on Spotify, your existing show is reused.
What happens to existing episodes?
Existing audio-only episodes
Published audio-only episodes are not automatically turned into video episodes. That means:
- They stay audio episodes on Spotify.
- No video is generated from your cover art and audio.
- They don't suddenly appear as video on Spotify.
Existing video episodes
If you've already published video episodes in Podigee before setting Spotify Video up, you can choose during activation whether they get included. That choice is the New episodes only vs. All episodes option in the activation dialog.
What happens after activation?
After activation, Podigee processes the setup in the background. Depending on how many episodes you have and how fast Spotify is processing, that can take a moment. You can close the window – the import keeps running.
On the Spotify Video card, you'll see statuses like:
- Waiting for Spotify to start the import …
- Importing your podcast from your RSS feed …
- Finalizing – linking your episodes …
- Spotify Video is enabled
- If something fails: Something went wrong, including a specific hint on what to fix.
Once Spotify Video is fully active, new published video episodes are automatically processed and sent to Spotify.
Status of individual episodes
You'll find the per-episode status directly inside the episode, under Media file. There you can see:
- whether the episode was sent to Spotify,
- whether it's still being processed,
- whether there's an error,
- whether Spotify is treating the episode as audio or video.
Managing Spotify Video
Once Spotify Video is enabled, the Spotify Video card gives you three actions:
- View on Spotify – Opens your podcast directly on Spotify.
- Re-sync with Spotify – Triggers a fresh sync with Spotify if something doesn't look up to date.
- Disconnect Spotify Video – Ends management through the Spotify Video API.
💡 If you disconnect Spotify Video, you can re-enable it later. If your previous Spotify show still exists, Podigee reuses it for re-activation.
What happens if you disconnect Spotify Video?
If you disconnect Spotify Video, your RSS submission to Spotify will NOT be automatically restored.
⚠️ If you want to switch back to RSS or move to another hosting provider later, you can do so—but you must contact our Podigee Support team directly so that your show can be switched back from API delivery to RSS. This is currently a manual process in cooperation with Spotify.
Common problems and solutions
Spotify Video can't be enabled
Possible reasons:
- The podcast isn't published yet.
- There's no published episode yet.
- Your Podigee plan doesn't include the Video package.
- Required details on your podcast or individual episodes are missing (e.g. cover art, content rating).
- If any information is missing, Podigee will show you the specific cause directly in the activation dialog.
An episode doesn't show up as video on Spotify
Please check:
- Was an error message displayed?
- Is an error message displayed?
- Did you actually upload a video file to the episode?
- Is the episode published?
- Is Spotify Video fully active (status: Spotify Video is enabled)?
- Is the episode still being processed?
- Does your file meet Spotify's technical requirements (MP4 or MOV, H.264/H.265, AAC, 16:9 thumbnail)?
Older episodes don't appear on Spotify Video
This usually happens when New episodes only was selected during setup, or because the older episodes don't have a video file. In that case, the only path is to add a video file to the episode you want to publish.
Changes aren't visible on Spotify yet
As with any platform, it can take a while for Spotify to pick up and display changes. For more on Spotify timing in general, see our article on publishing your podcast on Spotify.
